5 DANCING MEN/ESSENTIAL
When their not remixing for
Skint, Compost and the like
Product.01 are busy
beavering away crafting own
uniqueblend of acid lead
electro. Released on
their self owned imprint
'The Hot EP'takes in a wide-
ranging scope of bleepy
electro cuts. Three very
different mixes to choose
from here, their 'Moonstomp
Mix' encompasses electro
house of the highest order,
taking in dirty rocking bass
married up with twisted acid
lines and slurry female vocals.
As for the 'ElectroVox Mix'
well lets just say if Goldfrapp
heard this they mite just
break out in sweats of
jealously. Last but by not
means least we are treated
to an acid remix, minimal
vocal usage and quite
possibly the filthiest acid
sounds to come out of
Brighton. Game over.
DMC UPDATE, DANCE MUSIC REVIEW
MARCH 8 2006 - 4 DANCING MEN/FLOOR FILLER
Last year, Product.01 impressed with the in-your-face electro outings like 'Heart Ov Glass' and 'State Ov Electrik', while scoring big on the Remixometer for the likes of Caucassian Boy and Husky Rescue. This EP is first taste of the new material taking shape - three takes on a work called 'Hot Trap'. The Moonstomp Mix plants the breathy female vocal and sundry screams over a harsh, hot wired clatter. The ElectroVox is beefy, swinging electro, while the Acid Mix is a scutting acid house instrumental.
MIXMAG, APRIL 2006 – TOP 2 ELECTRO TUNE
'Hot Trap' is a controlled explosion of bleeps and titanium-tipped FX which, thanks to Rochelle's vocal, which rises effortlessly above the electronic shrapnel, retains it's pop edge. 'Moonstomp Mix' is the pick of the pops here. More tough love from the 'Heart Ov Glass' duo.
iDJ MAGAZINE, DECEMBER 2005 – 4 STARS
Fat, ruff vocal electro from Rochelle and Adamo. Three mixes of the catchy ‘Hot
Trap' to go for: coming on like a bleepier, more wigged-out Goldfrapp, the original
is a floor-rocker in itself, but here it comes accompanied by two clubbed-up
remixes, one vocal, one not. Very cool, and their most memorable outing since
‘Heart Ov Glass'.
JERRY BOUTHIER, M8 MAGAZINE, FEBRUARY 2006 - M6/M8
Brighton's pro-active electro duo has a new single out on its own imprint; it's
called 'Hot Trap' and comes in three different mixes. There's the schizophrenic
ElectroVox Mix, relentless and suffocating like an out-of-hand S&M session. Getting
deeper the Acid Remix still manages a jolly mood - the clubbiest cut of the lot.
The Moonstomp Mix is pure Goldfrapp chic and highlights the pair's pop potential.
BLUES AND SOUL, Issue 966 – 4 STARS
"Hot Trap" is a three track EP with three mixes and a prelude to the
forthcoming album. The three mixes would suit any dancefloor with the
Moonstomp Mix being a feisty and intense house/ techno remix, the ElectroVox
Mix being twisted 80's stylings and the Acid Remix adding hard-hitting
DJ MAGAZINE, MARCH 1 - 14 2006 - 3.5 STARS
We like the idea of producers remixing themselves rather than some label bod putting together a package at the cost to the artists royalties. That's what the electro pair with the hearts of glass have done here. The 'ElectroVox Mix' sticks close to their crunchy beats and 'clashy vocals that has worked in their favour before - and with plenty of sensual drama this is up with their best stuff. The 'Moonstomp Mix' sounds like Goldfrapp being put together on a production line with the funkiest robots on duty, while the 'Acid Mix' does exactly what you'd imagine.
DJ MAGAZINE, FEBRUARY 15 - 28 2006 - 3 STARS
After covering Blondie's 'Heart Ov Glass' last year, Product.01 have a go at creating their own electro-infused anthem. The 'Electrovox Mix' is a moody tech-electro punk stomper, which will probably be a bit scary and noisy for most househeads. The 'Moonstomp Mix' puts fat analogue sounds over chugging beats for an electro-pop track with a touch of the Goldfrapps about it. Of most dance floor interest is the 'Acid Remix', a heavy dubbed-out edit, with snatches of the vocal floated above juddering acidic bass and some funky robotic blips and bleeps. A competent exercise in bleep acid house minimalism.
DJ MAGAZINE, DECEMBER 9 - JANUARY 6 2006 - 3.5 STARS
Product.01 are one of the few electro acts who are able to explore pop music without looking stupid, or worse, like one of the cast of 'Zoolander'. This sensibility is evident on the catchy vocals and sweaty, pulsing groove of 'Hot Trap'. But the remixes prove that there's more to this duo than rehashing former chart glories. There's a glitchy, bumping backing on the original version and the old school acid of the, erm, 'acid' remix shows that Product.01 know dance music as well as pop's past.
MARK MOORE & PRINCESS JULIA, QX MAGAZINE, FEBRUARY 2006
Great 3 tracker wiv a bit ov acid and electro stomp! Charting at 4.
EQ-MAG.CO.UK, Issue 3, 7/10
Electro. Punk. Techno. Without naming names, some producers and labels seem to try too hard to be all of the above but never manage. Product.01, on the otherhand, have it all in The Hot EP. The ElectroVox Mix of Hot is an aggressive electro, techno track containing an excellent punk vocal, acid squelches and serrated synths that seem to go 100 miles an hour. The very fine Moonstomp Mix, with the same softly seductive female vocal, could easily be mistaken for sounding like Goldfrapp if it wasn't as raw, while the Acid Mix of Trap is another helping of acidic electro techno. Not bad!
The third and possibly the best release from Brighton based electro act Product 01. With tweking acid and phat analogue synths, this package moves the dancefloor a treat. Wonderful.

You can always depend on a certain level of quality from Product.01. Whether from their original tracks or their remixes. Constantly innovative and sexy. I always have at least one record with their grubby fingerprints on in my box. Although I'll play the Moonstomp mix the most in my set, the Electrovox mix will work well too with the right crowd and I can imagine it sounding good on the radio.
